Opening Ceremony of International Master Course on Environmental Science, Joint Educational Program between University of Sciences, Hue University and Savannakhet University, Lao PDR
In the morning of February 27th, 2019, the Opening Ceremony of International Course on Environmental Science, the Joint Educational Program was formally celebrated by University of Sciences, Hue University and Savannakhet University.
The ceremony welcomed the presence of Madam Khamphin Phengmanyvong, Deputy Chef of Office, People’s Committee of Savannakhet Province; Mr. Tran Cong Thinh, Consulate General of Vietnam in Savannakhet, Assoc.Prof. Bounpong Keorodom, President of Savannakhet University, Assoc.Prof. Huynh Van Chuong, Vice President of Hue University; Assoc.Prof. Ha Van Hanh, Vice Rector of University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC); Dr. Hoang Dinh Trung, Deputy Head of Office for Graduate Education, HUSC; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Chef Accountant of HUSC; Dr. Hoang Cong Tin, lecturer in charge of graduate education from Faculty of Environmental Science, HUSC and especially, 20 master students.

Savannakhet University and HUSC have developed the close relations and signed the MOU on education and training cooperation since 2011. In October 2018, HUSC cooperated with Savannakhet University to successfully organize the entrance exam for master degree in Environmental Science at Savannakhet University. There were 20 candidates getting the permission to master course under the Joint Education Program. On November 1st 2018, Hue University issued the decision to recognize the admission to master course of students in 2018. This is considered as the pilot program on high-qualified human resources training for our neighbor country, Lao PDR with the support and administration of HUSC. This joint education program, which was set up in 2018, mainly focused on the environment – one of the most challenging problems of human beings nowadays. All of subjects of the course have been taught in English including Environmental Economics and Management; Environmental Laws, Policy and Sociology; Environmental Science and Technology. After graduation, the master students can work as the experts and consultants in the field of environmental conservation, protection and sustainable development.

Giving speech at the Opening Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Ha Van Hanh, Vice Rector of HUSC congratulated 20 candidates who had made all efforts during the process of knowledge supplementation as well as the hard examination to become master students of HUSC. Assoc. Prof. Ha Van Hanh also confirmed that these initial achievements would create motivation and confidence for learners to develop their study in the future. The Vice Rector hoped that 20 Laos master students would further promote their tradition of diligence, fondness for learning, creativeness to fulfill their learning obligation and research, which positively contributing to the socio-economic development of their country. This is a great honor since HUSC has been recognized as one of the prestigious destinations for students to pursue and improve their qualifications in many previous years.
