The University of Sciences, Hue University attended the International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies in Asia in 2019
From Nov 26th to Nov 28th, 2019, International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies in Asia was organized in Kyoto University, Japan. This was an annual conference hosted by Kyoto University, Japan and funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan (MEXT) and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
The symposium was large-scale with the participation of nearly 245 participants from 30 universities and 14 agencies and units operating in the field of technology and environmental consultancy from 19 countries like Japan, India, Southeast Asian countries (Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and Europe (France, Belgium). The University of Sciences, Hue University had 02 representatives attending the symposium, including Dr. Nguyen Truong Tho - Head of Office for Science – Technology and International Relations; and Dr. Hoang Cong Tin - Lecturer of Faculty of Environment.
In the symposium, there were many reports and discussions on topics related to building and implementing the international training program on environment such as “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Role of universities and international cooperation” by Mr. Itsu Adachi – General Director of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); Presentation on "Promoting environmental sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific" by Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura - General Director, Division of Cooperation, Strategy and Policy of Asian Development Bank (ADB). In particular, the conference spent a significant amount of time on the presentation of research results by more than 30 young researchers who have received sponsor from the "incubation" fund of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES), Kyoto University. In 2019, the University of Sciences has 2 lecturers receiving research grants including Dr. Hoang Cong Tin - Lecturer of Faculty of Environment and Dr. Tran Thanh Nhan - Lecturer of Faculty of Geography – Geology.
The delegates of the University of Sciences actively participated in conference’s activities through reports of lecturers, shared and exchanged ideas at the discussion session as well as outside the symposium. Through this conference, the long-term cooperative relationship between the University of Sciences and GSGES, Kyoto University has been increasingly strengthened and developed.
