Strengthening International Collaboration in Food Safety and Environmental Research through the VIBE2 Project - Component 5
Under the framework of the VIBE2 Project, Component 5 - led by the University of Sciences, Hue University, in collaboration with partners in Ireland - is making significant progress in research related to risk assessment of pesticide residues, illegal growth - promoting agents, and microplastics in food and aquatic products. This component is highly applicable and makes practical contributions to public health and sustainable development.
At this stage, Component 5 has achieved several notable outcomes, including:
• Finalizing procedures for analyzing microplastics in aquatic species in Thua Thien Hue.
• Developing methods for analyzing pesticide residues in vegetables, fruits, and rice using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
• Advancing voltammetric techniques for detecting salbutamol and clenbuterol using MoS₂/activated carbon-modified electrodes.
The component is expected to produce 2 to 3 scientific publications in international journals indexed in the Web of Science. It is also actively training one PhD candidate and two master's students who are directly involved in the research, highlighting a strong linkage between education and scientific inquiry. A dissemination conference is scheduled for late 2025 to share the research outcomes.
International cooperation continues to be a key focus. From May 5 to 12, 2025, a delegation from Component 5, including Assoc.Prof. Vo Thanh Tung, Rector of the University of Sciences (HUSC), Prof. Le Dinh Phung, Vice-Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, and Assoc. Prof. Tran Thi Ai My, lecturer from the Faculty of Chemistry (HUSC), had a working visit to Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), Ireland. The delegation participated in plenary sessions with representatives from VIBE2 Ireland and held in-depth discussions with leading scientists - Prof. Christine O’Connor (TU Dublin) and Dr. Martin Danaher (Teagasc – Ireland).
