Hue University of Sciences hosts Ferris University: International Collaboration for sustainable development goals

The Faculty of Environmental Science, University of Sciences, Hue University welcomed Professor Chiashi Akihiro and a group of students from Ferris University, Japan, as part of their annual academic exchange program on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from March 11 to 17, 2025. This initiative has marked a milestone to internationalize education and promote research collaboration between the two institutions.

This year’s exchange program was not only for academic interaction but also for meaningful experience for students of both institutions. During the program, the main activities focused on the following objectives:

·        Field activities and cultural exploration

o   Exploring the Huong River, a cultural and ecological symbol of Hue.

o   Visiting Ru Cha mangrove ecosystem, a crucial coastal ecosystem often referred to as the "green lung" of the region.

o   Experiencing traditional straw paper-making, a sustainable journey for green fields.

o   Visiting Thao Long dam and Sam Chuon lagoon, both exemplary sites for conservation and sustainable development.

o   Learning about aquaculture in local farming areas, gaining insight into the region's economy and ecology.

o   Visiting Hue University campuses, where students shared knowledge and perspectives on sustainability challenges.

o   Exploring Van Nien water plant, offering practical lessons in urban water resource management and sustainable urban development.

o   Discovering Bach Ma National Park, showcasing Vietnam’s rich biodiversity and conservation efforts.

·        Academic activities and skills development:

o   Beyond fieldwork, students collaborated on group projects, participated in thematic discussions, and presented reports on SDG-related issues. These academic sessions encouraged innovation and the exchange of ideas around sustainable solutions.

The partnership with Ferris University is a cornerstone of the Faculty of Environmental Science’s international engagement strategy. The program demonstrates the university and faculty’s commitment to providing students with access to global knowledge and practical experience, while fostering the skills needed to address pressing environmental challenges.

The positive feedback from Professor Akihiro and the Ferris University students reflects the strong impact and effectiveness of the exchange.

 

Hue University of Sciences believes that the exchange program with Ferris University will be a memorable milestone in the academic journey of students from both institutions, contributing to the cultivation of friendship between Vietnam and Japan and spreading the mission of promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
